Al-Muhayam Village: The Will to Change in the Face of Challenges

In the heart of Al-Hayma Al-Kharijiyah, where rugged mountainous terrain tells tales of resilience, lies the village of Al-Muhayam.

This area suffers from significant difficulties accessing basic services due to the poor condition of roads, making daily life a constant challenge for residents.

At the farthest reaches of the city, a deep valley meets towering mountains on all sides, making access to scattered villages extremely difficult. Despite the beauty of the landscape, this area hides a great deal of suffering due to the harshness and roughness of the roads and the torrential floods that negatively affect road conditions. The Anaz-Al-Mahiam road was a major route connecting Sana’a with Al-Hodeidah, but the harsh terrain prevented the implementation of engineering plans, leaving dozens of villages in the Al-Mahiam area isolated from the outside world.

In 2019, a spread of hope was generated by three men who had suffered from the long distance. They did not stand idly by, but decided to take the initiative and pave the road themselves. Soon, the entire tribe responded to this initiative, turning it into a huge community project. Work continued diligently until the rough areas were completed, where the only possible way to repair the road was to pave it with stones, due to the difficulty of bringing equipment into the area.

Despite the difficulty of manual labor, residents insisted on completing it using their local expertise and individual skills. The repair efforts extended to include members of the community in the outer neighborhood and residents of neighboring villages, adding a spirit of cooperation and solidarity to the project. After years of hard work, residents began to reap the fruits of their efforts. Living conditions improved, and access to basic necessities became much easier. The new road connects four cities (Rima, Al-Hodeidah, Sana’a, and Dhamar) and serves more than 12 villages.

The efforts were not limited to grassroots initiatives, but also received support from local authorities and community organizations, such as the Y30 Foundation. This foundation played a vital role in supporting the initiative, contributing to:

• Collecting donations to finance the road paving project.

Supervised the work to ensure the project was implemented efficiently.

• Conducting a study of the number of beneficiaries and those affected to determine the actual impact of the project.

• Identifying the importance of contributing to the paving of the Al-Muhayam road to promote local development.

Thanks to these efforts, the pace of work accelerated, and better results were achieved. The story of Al-Muhayam village remains an inspiring example of the ability of local communities to bring about positive change despite challenges. It is a story that deserves to be told and immortalized in history, proving that there are no limits to community giving and no restrictions on strong will.

This special celebration was more than just raising a cup; it was a journey of discovery, tracing the story that begins with a tiny bean nurtured in fertile mountain soil and ends with a cup that carries joy, inspiration, and community.

Under the theme “The Magical Journey… From Bean to Cup,” the event highlighted coffee as a global symbol of unity — a bridge connecting cultures, stories, and people across continents.

Each coffee bean represents dedication, craftsmanship, and passion — from the farmer’s care to the barista’s artistry.

One of the event’s most memorable moments was the engaging presence of barista and coffee expert Ammar Al-Ahlasi, who filled the room with enthusiasm and the irresistible aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

He came not just to serve coffee, but to share knowledge and unveil the secrets behind this enchanting beverage.

Ammar emphasized that brewing coffee is both an art and a ritual — from choosing the right grind size to controlling the water temperature and mastering the pouring technique. Every detail matters.

Each drop of water that touches the ground extracts not just flavor, but also a story, a feeling, and a sense of connection — creating a cup that nourishes the soul as much as the senses.

In closing, the Y30closing, the Y30 Association, in collaboration with the Y30 Institute, affirmed that this event was more than just a celebration — it was a heartfelt tribute to the timeless values that coffee embodies: dedication, creativity, and human connection.

Every cup tells a journey — from the earth to the heart — reminding us that coffee is not merely a beverage, but a way of life.
