In the face of war and skyrocketing prices for essentials like flour and water, the residents of Sana’a, Yemen, found a reason to rise above hardship. Inspired by the “Restaurants of the Heart” project, they launched “Heart Bakeries,” a community effort dedicated to providing fresh bread, a staple in Yemeni diets. Each bakery operates with a dedicated team of volunteers, producing a remarkable 10,000 loaves of bread per day for distribution. Y30 actively supported the initiative by supplying necessary raw materials.
The project extended its efforts during Ramadan, a holy month of fasting, followed by a celebratory Eid Al-Fitr. Recognizing the importance of upholding traditions even amidst hardship, volunteers from restaurants and bakeries joined forces. This spirit of community ensured that the joy of Eid reached the hearts of Yemenis.
Y30’s involvement and the project’s success garnered media attention, propelling the association into a vital role as a bridge between generous donors and Yemenis in need. During Eid Al-Fitr, a time for new clothes and celebratory meals, a donor entrusted Y30 with distributing 2,000 pieces of fabric to the beneficiaries of the restaurants and
bakeries, bringing smiles to the faces of Sana’a residents.
Looking ahead, Y30 seeks to provide financial support to the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly voluntarily. By ensuring their continued efforts, the Heart Bakeries project could keep nourishing hope and alleviating hardship in war-torn Yemen.
